League Round Up

League Reports

Sunday January 8th 2017

First Division

Livadia 1 New Salamis 1

Livadia continued their good form by holding the league champion’s New Salamis to a draw who until this game had not dropped a point.

This game was the first in 2017 for both teams. New Salamis started the game well but the Livadia defence were looking really composed at the back and kept them at bay.

Livadia manager Tolga Mustafa set out with a defensive plan and the players adapted to it and played well with it and New Salamis could not play their normal game and a good tactical change that Livadia did was playing their striker Samir Aalit in a defensive role.

It took till the 70th minute for the deadlock to be broken when New Salamis were awarded a penalty which Kyri Portou scored.

As the game continued there were chances at both ends but with 8 minutes left a Livadia corner taken by Pete Panayiotou found Elia Katsioloudi who headed the ball at the keeper who couldn't hold on to it to only drop for Samir Aalit to smash it into the back of the net for an equaliser finishing the game at 1-1.

Olympia 10 KLN 0

Olympia move into second place after their win over KLN a good all round performance for Steve Cinotti’s team with some spectacular goals. KLN did play good football but defensively they were very poor.

Olympia’s goals were scored by David Laird 4, Tashan Bradshaw 2, Paul Wright 2, Yemi and Perdicou.

Anorthosis 3 Arachne 4

This was probably the match of the day goals galore and excitement to go with it. Arachne started the game well and shot into a 2-0 lead. The first coming from new signing Joe Grant after good work from Damien Spyrou down the right wing, Joe was there to score a poachers goal at the back post. John Holmes made it 2-0 with a good header from a corner. Arachne then had many chances to go out of sight but didn't take them and were punished just before half time when Anorthosis scored to make it 2-1. In the second half Anorthosis came out and put pressure on Arachne, although Arachne were always dangerous on the counter. Anorthosis equalised and the game was in the balance. Anorthosis then went on to make it 3-2. Anorthosis goals came from Alex Roussi s and Charlie Clarke 2.

This revitalised Arachne and with only 5 minutes remaining another wonderful cross by Damien was met with a leaping header from JoeGrant to make it 3-3. Then 2 minutes later Ant Panayi cut in from the left and slotted the ball into the bottom corner sending the Arachne players and fans into jubilation.

A Great win for Arachne which now makes the relegation battle very interesting.

Second Division

Komi Kebir 0 Maronites 0

Both teams looked off the pace after the Christmas break.

Neither keeper was tested as both teams struggled to get into their stride.

Komi had most of the possession in both halves but failed to turn this into chances. Maronites looked dangarous on the break but they also couldn't create much.

I believe that both teams will soon be able to recover their form and the goals will start coming in.

Achna 1 Pantel 1

Another surprise result for Achna drawing at home to Pantel that lifts them off the bottom spot and gives them a much needed confidence to boost their performances and Im sure they will gain momentum. Achna scored first in the 52nd minute with a shot from Justin Zacharia. Pantel who have yet to recover their pre season form scored in added time with a goal from Alex Constantinou.

LFA Challenge Cup

4th round
